Treatments You Can Ask To Have Included In A Custom Facial

Some spas and salons have a menu of pre-arranged facials you can choose from. Others create customized facials for each client. They generally look at your skin and talk to you about your skin, and then they choose a series of treatments that they feel are best for you. However, you can also ask for specific treatments to be included in your custom facial. Here are a few such treatments to consider requesting.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a procedure by which your practitioner will use a special, gritty tool to abrade away the outer layers of your skin. It's like a deep exfoliation procedure. Microdermabrasion is great for anyone with acne, dry skin, or scars. Your skin will be a little red and irritated for a day or two afterwards, but then you'll notice that it becomes smoother and more youthful. Microdermabrasion is often done as the first step of a custom facial. It can then be followed up with other masks and treatments to soothe the skin and add moisture.

Don't confuse this procedure with dermabrasion, a deeper and more intense exfoliation procedure that comes with a week or two of really dry, peeling skin.

Glycolic Acid

A treatment with glycolic acid is really helpful for wrinkled skin and for age spots. With a glycolic acid treatment, your practitioner will apply an acid solution to your face and let it stay there for a minute or two. The acid will peel away the outer layer of your skin, which will start to stimulate your skin's natural healing process. As a part of that healing process, in the days after your facial, your skin will produce more collagen, which will help thwart these signs of aging.

Moisture Mask

Many facials end in a moisture mask, but if your practitioner does not tell you that yours will, you might want to request this. Even people who don't think they have dry skin can benefit from a moisture mask. It can help add volume back to the skin and reform the skin's moisture barrier, which will help protect your skin from wind damage, general irritation, and similar problems. Each salon has a different moisture mask formula, but you will often see them using ingredients like coconut oil and jojoba oil.

Don't be afraid to request certain components be added to your facial. This is all a part of the customization process, and most practitioners will happily work with you. Look for a spa that offers customized facials near you.
